Date Difference Calculator
Use this date difference calculator to measure the time between two dates in several ways at once: total days, working days, complete weeks, months and hours. It is useful for project deadlines, notice periods, subscription lengths, HR calculations, travel planning and everyday date questions. If needed, you can also count the end date for inclusive date ranges.
Frequently Asked Questions
Working days are counted as Monday through Friday, excluding weekends (Saturday and Sunday). Public holidays are not automatically excluded, as they vary by country and region. This calculator is ideal for general business planning — for payroll or legal purposes, verify with your local calendar.
By default, the end date is not counted. For example, from Jan 1 to Jan 3 = 2 days. If you enable "count end date", it becomes 3 days. This is useful for inclusive date ranges like subscription periods or contract durations.
Yes! You can enter any two dates — past or future. The calculator works with dates in both directions. If the end date is before the start date, the result shows the absolute difference.
Simply set the start date to today's date and the end date to the event date. The "Total Days" result will tell you exactly how many days remain until your event.
No. Working days here are based on Monday to Friday only. Public holidays are not removed automatically because they depend on the country, region and year.
How this calculator works
Formula explanation
**Formula:** Total days = |End Date − Start Date| in milliseconds / 86,400,000 | Working days: iterate through dates, count only Monday–Friday | Months = (End year − Start year) × 12 + (End month − Start month)
Worked example
**Example:** From January 1 to December 31, 2024: Total days = 365. Working days ≈ 261. Complete weeks = 52. Total months = 11.
